Contemporary art raises questions, challenges and inspires. The Kunsthalle Bern develops specific education offers for all interested persons and age groups based on the themes addressed in each show. In addition to public and private guided tours for adults, a younger audience is to be given an understanding of the current exhibitions through participatory and discursive approaches.

We welcome inquiries and ideas and are happy to respond to individual wishes.

Art Secret – Adventurous journeys of discovery for children

Adventurous journeys of discovery for children with a desire for exploring, discovering, guessing, inventing, telling stories, and experiencing things.

In conjunction with each exhibition Maja Brönnimann (dancing professional, Bern) and Eve Scheiben (theater professional, Bern) invite children to a unique and eventful view of the art objects. The focus is not on names, facts, and explanations, but on spontaneously acting and reacting to the exhibited works and the stories they convey. The show is toured and viewed together, with the participants making comments, guessing, assuming, searching, and giving free rein to their imagination. New and individual stories emerge that are jointly realized by interweaving elements of movement theater, pantomime, or action art and recorded on media.

The offer is for 6– to 11–year–olds and costs CHF 5.00. Each participating child receives a family ticket for the current exhibition.

Please register at: info_at_kunsthalle-bern.ch or contact Julia Jost.

The Art Secret format can also be booked for entire kindergarten or school classes (CHF 150.00, two lessons).

Cheeky Questions – Encounter with Contemporary Art

Youths from a school in Bern develop their own education projects for other school classes.

Project description: In the frame of the Kunsthalle’s new education project, students can delve into an exhibition. They are present during the set-up, talk with the director and the artist, get to know the team and the institution of the Kunsthalle, familiarize themselves with the thematic focuses and artworks of the show, and gain insights into forms and possibilities of art education.

Based on their critical questions, new insights, and personal points of view, they search for possible education projects to share their experiences with other students.

The offer is free of charge and mainly meant for classes of the upper grades, secondary schools, and teacher training colleges. The project is suitable both for theme weeks and regular classes.

If you, as a teacher, are interested in participating with a class in Cheeky Questions – Encounter with Contemporary Art, please contact Julia Jost.

Listen up – Cheeky Questions

In this new version of the Cheeky Questions mediation project, the students also take an in-depth look at the Kunsthalle. They peek behind the scenes, get to know the team, talk to the curator and the exhibiting artists, and deal intensively with selected themes and works from the current exhibition. They learn about the forms and possibilities of art mediation and, based on their own questions and perspectives, develop a mediation format that creates a new access to the exhibition for other school classes in the form of an auditory tour.

The offer is free of charge and is mainly meant for classes of the upper grades, secondary schools, and teacher training colleges. The format is suitable both for theme weeks and regular classes.

Introduction for Teachers

We offer a guided tour of each exhibition for teachers. It serves as preparation for the individual visit with the classes and provides an opportunity for exchange and discussion. To deal with the exhibition and its context in more detail, we provide text and image material that can also be used at school.

Participation is free of charge, please register with Julia Jost.

Art Cards for Pupils

The Art Card available at a price of CHF 6.00 grants pupils free admission throughout the school year to all exhibitions and collection presentations at the Kunsthalle Bern, the Kunstmuseum Bern, and the Zentrum Paul Klee.

The cards can only be obtained through the Kunsthalle. To this end, all we need is a list of the pupils along with the class and the school and signed by the teacher. The list can be sent to us or delivered personally. Unfortunately, individual cards cannot be handed out. Please contact Julia Jost.
