Contemporary art is often not easy to grasp. Therefore, it is important not only to look at art but also to talk about it. Our learning program offers the visitor an understanding of the international art scene. Artists, who are virtually unknown today, might be rewriting art history tomorrow. At Kunsthalle Bern, artists such as Klee, Matisse, Beuys and Christo had their first exhibitions when they were, to the majority of the population, unknown quantities. Today, this has changed. The understanding of art has undergone an evolution. But then as now there are many young artists whose work is regarded as too complex or too specific. Our tours are intended to enhance the understanding of today's avant-garde. You are cordially invited to visit the Kunsthalle Bern and actively participate in the discussions taking shape there. For each exhibition we arrange a specific program and sincerely hope to be able to welcome you soon.

Under the title „Kunstsitzung“ (art session), the Kunsthalle offers a new kind of tour of the current exhibition to older visitors. Mobile seats ensure a higher level of comfort for participants on these tours, as well as the opportunity to dedicate more time to selected works and discuss them afterwards while enjoying coffee and cake.

Starting now, Kunsthalle Bern offers you a tasty lunch combined with an professional tour of the exhibition. Until recently, only invited guests had the opportunity to get this kind of look behind the scenes at Kunsthalle Bern – now, all lovers of artistic and culinary delights can profit from this new offer. You will be served savoury, tasty and diverse dishes, courtesy of Kunsthalle’s very own cook René Frick. After a thirty minute tour of the exhibition, expertly conducted by Ines Schweinlin (responsible for education and tours at Kunsthalle Bern), the Kunsthalle-team invites you to join our table and ask questions, discuss, or simply sit back and enjoy. We offer seasonal vegetables and organic meat (from controlled origins). Our cook at his stove and our guide & educator are looking forward to welcoming you at Kunsthalle Bern.

The public tours provide an overview of the concept and idea of the exhibition, establish contexts and offer detailed analyses of specific points. Participation is free with a valid ticket to the exhibition.
